Turn a New Year Intention Into a Plan
The 10-step Administrative Scale I use to take a goal from an idea to a real result.
With the New Year upon us, we are all full of good intentions about making the year better than the last ones.
How do we go about it though? How do we make an intention become actuality?
There is a certain sequence of steps to follow. There are 10 of them. It is called an Administrative Scale.
The 10 steps
You start with deciding what you want to achieve. The more detailed the goal, the better. You want a complete visualisation of this future reality.
Then, in order of relative seniority, you decide on:
- 1. Goals
- 2. Purposes
- 3. Policies
- 4. Plans
- 5. Programs
- 6. Projects
- 7. Orders
- 8. Ideal Scenes
- 9. Statistics
- 10. Valuable Final Products
All the points on this scale have to be aligned to every other point. Work it up and down until all points are aligned and in agreement.
An example: becoming more profitable
Say your goal is to become (more) profitable in the new year.
Exactly how profitable do you want to become? How big do you want to be? Name your goal as exactly as you can. That gives you the best chance of achieving it.
Purposes: why do you want to become more profitable? What is in it for you? For your customers? For your staff?
Policies: what rules and guidelines do you and your staff need? What areas need improving to meet this goal? What areas are great and can be strengthened?
Plans: these are broad outlines of all areas of your company, to either fix or strengthen them.
Then you get into the nitty-gritty of management. The plans get broken down into programs. The programs get broken down into projects as needed. The projects get broken down into orders as needed.
Ideal Scene: exactly how will your company look if the goal is met? How busy should you be? Your staff? How many customers? How many sales? What about premises, how big? Again, the more you can visualise it, the better chance you have of achieving it.
Statistics: what do you need to keep a record of, to show you the progress of this scale?
Valuable Final Products: what are the Valuable Final Products of your company? Or what should they be?
Have fun with it
Have fun with this scale, and I hope it is of use to you.
There is a whole technology connected to this scale, and studies you can do to learn it in great detail. If you are interested, contact me for details.
As always, keep it simple... and Flourish and Prosper.
